A Must Visit: Johnston’s Cranberry Marsh & Muskoka Lakes Winery

Johnston’s Cranberry Marsh is a hidden gem! We stumbled upon it after frustration from overcrowding steered us away from Arrowhead Provincial Park’s outdoor skating trail (we did visit it two years ago – not worth the wait).

Located in Bala, Johnston’s is a winter getaway jam packed with fun! Activities include: skating trail, hiking, winery tour, wine tastings, cheese platter bonfire lunch, a cranberry-everything store, snowshoeing and more! And yes, we did them all.

They even have a ‘Cranboni’ (think cranberry-themed Zamboni) to clear the ice trail:

If you’re looking to beat the crowds, I highly recommend this tranquil, family-run spot. The people are lovely, the air is crisp, and the cranberries are everywhere! On our day there we practically bought out the entire store. From cranberry teas, jams, wines and mulling packs – we’re set until 2017!

Lunch is served!

We’ll be back this winter, no doubt about it!
